“Keep your eyes straight ahead; ignore all sideshow distractions. Watch your step, and the road will stretch out smooth before you.”
Proverbs 4:25-26 MSG.
It can be frustrating to watch other cars fly by you on the freeway while you’re stuck in the slow lane. You’re tempted to switch lanes, to merge into the flow of traffic, so you can reach your destination as quickly as possible.
That may be all right with driving, but not when it comes to the gift God has given you.
Of course, you’re going to be tempted to switch lanes and do something else that gets you where you want to go a lot faster. There will be days when you see everyone else “getting there” while you feel stuck in traffic.
Stay in your lane, precious soul. Don’t worry about what other people are doing or how they’re speeding past you.
If you’re doing what God has called you to do, you’re going to get to your destination at just the right time – in His perfect timing.
You see, if you switch lanes now and merge into traffic, you could become an unrecognizable blur. Just another car on the road or another face in the crowd.
And you could miss your calling.
Don’t forget that God created you for this particular time in history and has gifted you for this time as well.
So, be brave, dear soul, and stay the course. Your lane may take you completely away from all the traffic. You might even have to get out of the car and start walking.
Which, after driving in the slow lane, will feel like you’re crawling.
But take heart! It’s a special lane, a wonderful path. Private. Peaceful. And one you have the privilege of walking with your Heavenly Father as He takes hold of your hand and lovingly leads you to your calling.
