For the Underdog

Do you feel like an underdog swimming against the current, and you’re starting to get tired? Or maybe you simply feel like the world looks down on you, and you don’t “fit in” no matter how hard you try. If you feel like you’re an underdog just fighting to survive, let me encourage you:

As an underdog, you don’t quit. You’re stubborn enough to ignore the naysayers who tell you you’re not going to make it. You push on. Even when things are hard. Especially when things are hard. There have been times, your darkest times, when you’ve considered giving up. But that tiny spark of yours, the one about the size of a mustard seed, ignites something else that keeps you going.

If you’re an underdog, you push past your failures. You step beyond your limits. You keep going even when no one else is watching. You keep dreaming even when the world tells you it’s not going to happen. They tell you you’re not good enough. They try to beat you down. But you keep getting back up. They tell you there’s someone else more qualified, better, stronger. They say you don’t have what it takes.

But God doesn’t see you that way. He reminds you when you’re weak, that’s when He is strong within you.

“But he [the Lord] said to me, ‘My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.’ Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.”

2 Corinthians 12:9-10 NIV.

You, dear underdog, have God’s strength in your heart.

So go on. Get back up. Keep fighting for that dream. Keep pressing on in the strength God is giving you. Remember, you’re not alone. God will never leave you. And I’m here in the fight with you. We can help each other to stand strong. And we’ll keep our eyes on God, so we can win for Him, for His kingdom. So we can show the world God loves the least, the weakest, the lowly. The underdog. And maybe, just maybe, you and I will encourage other underdogs to fight for the kingdom. To fight like never before because time is short, and the plans God has for us are worth fighting for.
